Anomalous propagation loss in photonic crystal waveguides.
Propagation loss can occur in photonic crystal waveguides without complete optical confinement. We employ a highly efficient transfer-matrix method which allows for accurate and reliable extraction of the propagation loss even at an extremely low level. The results for a two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide shows that the loss exponentially decays via the waveguide wall thickness. An anom...
متن کاملfive-port power splitter based on pillar photonic crystal
designing a power splitter with five ports has been shown in this article. in order to prevent the direct coupling between waveguides, a t-shaped structure with an appropriate distance has been used. the coupling between the parallel photonic crystal waveguides is based on multimode interference, while selecting the output efficiency is performed by setting the refractive coefficients and radiu...
متن کاملSemianalytic treatment for propagation in finite photonic crystal waveguides.
We present a semianalytic theory for the properties of two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides of finite length. For single-mode guides, the transmission spectrum and field intensity can be accurately described by a simple two-parameter model. Analogies are drawn with Fabry-Perot interferometers, and generalized Fresnel coefficients for the interfaces are calculated.
متن کاملNonlinear light propagation in chalcogenide photonic crystal slow light waveguides.
Optical nonlinearity can be enhanced by the combination of highly nonlinear chalcogenide glass and photonic crystal waveguides (PCWs) providing strong optical confinement and slow-light effects. In a Ag-As(2)Se(3) chalcogenide PCW, the effective nonlinear parameter γeff reaches 6.3 × 10(4) W(-1)m(-1), which is 200 times larger than that in Si photonic wire waveguides. In this paper, we report t...
متن کاملCoupled-mode theory and propagation losses in photonic crystal waveguides.
Mode coupling phenomena, manifested by transmission "ministopbands", occur in two-dimensional photonic crystal channel waveguides. The huge difference in the group velocities of the coupled modes is a new feature with respect to the classical Bragg reflection occurring, e.g., in distributed feedback lasers. We show that an adequate ansatz of the classical coupled-mode theory remarkably well acc...
